Factory attendance: shift work, nights and overtime

In a factory, attendance gets complicated quickly: rotating three-shift teams, night shifts over midnight, overtime that needs approval, dozens of people punching at shift change. Tempo applies each employee’s rotation and calculates each shift as one working day.

Weekly shift planner with coverage line (French interface)
Planner. Real capture of the software on its built-in demonstration company (fictitious company and employees, simulated terminal).

Rotations described once

You create the shifts (morning, afternoon, night) and an N-day rotation with its first day; each team receives the rotation from a date. The planner shows each workshop’s week, coverage per shift and conflicts (too little rest between shifts, more than 48 hours in the week).

A one-off replacement is made in a planner cell, without touching the rotation.

Night shifts and shift change

  • A 22:00–06:00 shift belongs to one day: the evening arrival and the morning departure form a pair
  • Repeated punches a few seconds apart (queue, second attempt) count once
  • A forgotten departure does not create fictitious hours: the day is flagged “missing clock-out” until corrected

Overtime under control

You choose the rule: beyond the planned duration, after the shift’s end time, or beyond a threshold. Overtime can require approval before it goes into the payroll export; work on a rest day or public holiday is identified separately. Premium calculation stays in your payroll software.

Choosing the recognition mode

On the DS-K1T321MFWX terminal, an employee can be recognised by face, fingerprint or card. On the shop floor, gloved or worn hands sometimes make fingerprints less reliable; face or card are then alternatives. The mode is set on the terminal; Tempo treats every recognised passage the same way.

Frequently asked questions

How many employees can Tempo handle?

The number of employees and terminals is set in the licence issued with your quote. On the terminal side, the DS-K1T321MFWX advertises a library of 500 faces; beyond that, several terminals are needed.

Can I track time per machine or per order?

No. Tempo tracks employee attendance and working time, not production time.
